Safety Precautions for Electrolyzer Shutdown

2025-06-07

After confirming the tapping, the necessary tools should be prepared in time. Tools that will contact the high-temperature melt should be preheated. When sucking out the electrolyte and aluminum liquid, a dedicated person must be responsible for lowering the anode. It is strictly forbidden for the anode to separate from the electrolyte, and it is strictly forbidden for the anode to drop to the bottom and damage the upper busbar lifting mechanism.

Safety Precautions for Electrolytic Cell Shutdown Operations:

1) After confirming the shutdown, prepare the necessary tools immediately. Tools that will come into contact with high-temperature molten materials should be preheated.
2) When extracting electrolyte and aluminum liquid, a designated person must be responsible for lowering the anode. The anode must not be separated from the electrolyte, and the anode must not be lowered to the bottom to avoid damaging the upper busbar lifting mechanism.
3) After power failure, the insulation board must be removed from the short-circuiting point, cleaned with a gentle breeze to ensure cleanliness of the short-circuiting surface, and the bolts tightened.
4) After tightening the bolts, check the temperature of the short-circuiting point. If the temperature exceeds 100℃, take appropriate measures. Prevent the temperature from rising too quickly and melting the short-circuiting point.
5) In case of a sudden leak, have someone lower the anode while simultaneously notifying the rectifier station to cut the power. Prevent the anode from separating from the electrolyte to avoid explosions and affecting the entire series.
6) Simultaneously, quickly locate the leak, and use a crane or manual labor to plug the leak. Use a baffle to protect the busbar to prevent damage, and direct the crane or manual labor to plug the aluminum channel. If the leak cannot be stopped, immediately extract the aluminum liquid and electrolyte.
7) The extracted aluminum liquid should be sent to the casting area immediately.
8) Prevent aluminum liquid or electrolyte leaking to the bottom of the cell from burning the cables and wires in the trench, preventing fires. Keep fire extinguishers ready. Do not use water to extinguish fires.
9) Personnel plugging leaks must wear complete personal protective equipment to prevent burns.
10) After the electrolytic cell shutdown operation is completed, put away all tools as required, clean the site, inspect the shutdown cell and its surroundings, and make complete records.
